How a Granite Yard project unfolds.
From the first conversation to the install crew leaving the property — here's what to expect.
Initial property visit
We walk the property with you. Existing trees, grade, drainage, what you use, what you don't, where the morning light falls in August. By the end of the visit there's a clear sense of the scope, the budget range, and whether we're the right studio for the project. Not every property is a Granite Yard project; not every Granite Yard project starts with a yes.
Design phase
A measured base plan is drawn at 1/8 inch to a foot, with northing, contours, and existing planting noted. From the base we build the planting plan, hardscape geometry, and a written narrative for what each area is meant to do. Plans are delivered hand-drawn and digital. One revision round is included; substantive scope changes restart the design clock.
Pricing & scheduling
Once the design is approved we put a real number on it — itemized by phase, with material specifications and plant counts. For multi-year master plans we price phase by phase. Install is typically scheduled 6–14 weeks out depending on season; spring installs book by January, fall installs by July.
Install
Our crew handles the install — six members during the growing season, three through winter. Daily site cleanup is part of the job; we're working in your yard, not against it. Substrate prep for hardscape gets done correctly even when no one is looking. Plant material is sourced from regional growers (Prairie Moon, Prairie Restorations, Bachman's, regional native ecotype suppliers).
First-year care
We come back at 3, 6, and 12 months after install. Anything that didn't take is replaced under warranty. Beds get a check for weed pressure, watering needs, and any plant that's struggling. The 12-month visit is when the planting is judged against the plan; it's also when we discuss whether ongoing seasonal maintenance from Granite Yard is the right fit, or whether the property is set up for the homeowner to take it from there.
